What is the Research Training Scheme (RTS)?

All QUT domestic postgraduate research students are given a tuition free period of enrolment at QUT based on the RTS eligibility criteria.
For full information on the RTS scheme please refer to Department of Education, Employoment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR). Following is an extract from the DEEWR document /2006 RTS Student Eligibility Criteria:
  • An RTS student must be:
    • an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or New Zealand citizen; and
    • enrolled in an accredited HDR course leading to a Doctorate degree by research (including a professional Doctorate) or a Masters degree by research. Up to one third of the course may be completed by coursework.
  • RTS students may be enrolled on a full-time or part-time basis.
Maximum entitlements

RTS students are entitled to a maximum of four years full-time equivalent study if undertaking an eligible Doctorate degree by research and a maximum of two years full-time equivalent study if undertaking a Masters degree by research. The maximum period of entitlement is calculated from the course commencement date. Conditions apply if previous research studies have been undertaken.
