I am on a scholarship and am expecting a child? What are my options?

On an APA or QUT award that is based on the APA rules, you have 12 weeks paid maternity leave after you have held the scholarship for a year. If you are the father and have held your scholarship for a year, you are entitled to 5 days paid parental leave at the time of the birth. So you can be paid while you have the child and will be eligible for the remaining term of your scholarship. If you have not held the scholarship for a year you can take a leave of absence for up to a year. A birth certificate or doctor's certificate to confirm the confinement or adoption notification is required.

The LOA/Sick Leave form includes provision for other sorts of leave.

You may also be entitled to return to study part time after your maternity leave or to take a leave of absence for up to a year (combined paid and unpaid leave).
