You can choose a research higher degree program to suit your particular circumstances and desired career outcomes. It may be useful to view the list of courses available in the Faculty relevant to your area of expertise. You can also browse QUT's research strengths to help identify a potential research topic available through our faculties, research institutes or collaborative research centres. The following levels of study are available:

Graduate Certification in Research Commercialisation

This Graduate Certificate provides research students, researchers and professional managers of research with online training directed at heightening skills and understanding of aspects of research governance, marketing and knowledge transfer.

Masters by Research

A research masters gives you the chance to pursue a significant piece of supervised research. You may choose to use the course to build your skills and confidence before embarking on doctoral studies. This is offered over 1-2 years full time or 2-4 years part time.

Professional Doctorates

These applied doctorates meet the needs of working professionals who want to undertake high-level research and postgraduate coursework that is integrated with their working lives. They offer you outstanding opportunities to solve highly relevant problems with expert QUT supervision. This is offered 3 years full time or 6 years part time.

Doctor of Philosophy

The PhD challenges you to make a significant and original contribution to knowledge in your field. With a PhD you can help develop the theories and models that may shape your profession and/or discipline in the future. This is offered 3 years full time or 6 years part time.

Higher Doctorate

The degrees of Doctor of Letters (DLitt), Doctor of Science (DSc), Doctor of Engineering (DEng), Doctor of Business (DBus) and Doctor of Laws (LLD) may be awarded by the University to a candidate who proves outstanding original and distinguished contribution in a branch of learning. Applicants submit a thesis comprising publications drawn from their career that highlight their contribution. This is examined by experts in the area based on faculty nomination. Further information.
