The QUT'S Women's Re-Entry Scholarship (WRE) is funded by QUT'S Research Budget and is awarded to a woman who has suffered a significant interruption to her academic career and wishes to undertake a Doctoral Degree at QUT so as to update their research credentials in order to advance their opportunities to qualify for an academic position.
- Basic Eligibility Requirements (Please consult the WRE Rules for the full listing of eligibility requirements)
- The WRE is available to Australian citizens and permanent residents (including NZ citizens) undertaking a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Professional Doctorate.
- The WRE can only be awarded to an applicant who has completed a Bachelor's degree with at least Honours 2A, or is determined as having an equivalent level of academic attainment through previous study, relevant work experience, research publications and other research experience.
- The WRE is only offered to students who are commencing their Doctoral degree. The WRE is not available to students who are currently enrolled in their Doctoral degree.
- The WRE recipient must be enrolled as a full-time student, unless QUT has approved a part-time WRE as under section 4 of the WRE Rules.
- WRE applicants are required to submit a one page statement with their application detailing the significant interruption to their academic career that they have suffered (e.g. they left the world of academia to raise children), and how the WRE would help them advance their opportunities to qualify for an academic position.
- Amount
- The 2008 WRE rate is $20,007pa, tax exempt, which is paid in fortnightly payments of $766.87. These amounts are indexed annually.
- The WRE also provides a relocation allowance of up to $1,455 for eligible students.
- The WRE also provides a thesis allowance of up to $840 for eligible students.
- Duration
- The WRE is awarded for up to three years.
